Description
Trades with Montreal, Minnesota and Edmonton. Montreal trade sends the Habs a top pairing defencemen, clears up the Flames log jam on defence. Price is two seconds, which when compared to Hamonic, Hamilton trades (1 first, 2 seconds) seems reasonable. I'd like it to be more, but it is what is is. With Andersson, Valimaki and Kylington all demonstrating they belong, and not wanting to move one of the young defencemen, the Flames had to move someone, and Brodie and Andersson play similar games.
Trade with Minnesota is the rumoured trade that was discussed and postponed.
Ottawa trade is salary and a warm body on a one year, expiring deal. Ottawa needs salary, but doesn't want long term commitment, Calgary wants to get out of trouble. The draft pick move is the minor sweetener, Ottawa gets a fifth this year, Flames get one of the three sixths Ottawa has next year.

I don't think MTL sends two second round picks for Brodie. He got exposed against a younger, faster Avalanche team. Habs won't look at that trade twice. I think you get the Zucker trade but the key for Minny is to be smart and not mortage away pieces just for a window. Avs stayed the course and didn't give up a whole lot knowing they would be back in contention after a first round exit last season and here we are.

The Flames have a ton of pieces but they eerily remind me of the Avs back in the 2014 season when Colorado lost to Minny in the first round as a top seed. Not a lot of playoff experience and a team that needs to build from within, keep the current young assets and go from there. It sounds boring but we in Denver have been through it. We may lose to the Sharks but our future is a lot brighter than San Jose and it's nice knowing that.
