Description

For the Avs 4th overall pick I think they are likely to go with one of Dach, Byram, or Turcotte. I assume Turcotte is picked by the Hawks at 3 and the Avs go with what they need more which is a forward. IF Byram is the pick I assume Barrie gets moved at some point for a top 6 winger, which then makes it less likely that they pursue someone in the UFA market like Skinner. Skinner is my ideal free agent signing for Colorado, even though Panarin is the big fish if it requires a contract of 11M+ I hope they stay away. Other guys like Hayes, Lee, or Ferland would also be decent signings depending on the contracts. For the 16th pick (if it's not involved in some sort of trade that includes Barrie) pray that Caufield somehow falls into your lap, if not then guys like Newhook or Kaliyev could be the pick. Minor league guys like Kamenev, Timmins, Bowers, Kaut (could be on the roster opening night), Greer, and Graves could all be major contributors next year as depth pieces. Hopefully both Timmins and Kamenev can stay healthy because those are two guys who have a real good chance of becoming every day NHLers. Colin Wilson was the only UFA that was a tough decision to resign. If he is willing to take a pay cut and a shorter term (he had a big impact during the playoff run), it would be worth considering bringing him back if you're the Avs. Free agents I don't think they resign are Brassard, Nemeth, Bourque, Varlamov, and Andrighetto. I probably missed a few things, let me know what you think.

Mikko gets paid a little less.
Compher and Skinner get paid a little more.

I agree with the Wilson signing at that term/amount.
I would rather have Cozens > Dach but whoever it is, they go to the AHL for at least a year and Kamanev is the starting #4C.

I'm not totally sure what a Skinner contract would look like but you're pretty much paying him to put the puck in the net 40 (50?) times. If Compher gets paid anything more than 3.5 I think they're overpaying, he put up a career high with 32 points this year (granted he missed time but he does disappear for long stretches like Kerfoot and Jost do too often). Kamenev is tough for me because I think he is a bottom 6 center for the Avs when he's healthy but he hasn't played pretty much at all these past two years so I think he would start in the AHL just to get going, but I definitely could see him being the 4C on opening night. Dach just feels like one of those guys who could make the jump next year.

Kamanev starts over Dach.
Why rush/ruin Dachs development when we already have Kamanev and we need to play him to determine WTF he actually is as a player.

As far as Dach, he's a 4th overall pick, if he has that kind of talent there's no reason he wouldn't be able to make that jump next year without rushing his development. Starting him in the AHL would be a fine idea, I can just see him making the jump while giving Kamenev some time with the Eagles to get his legs back and get some games under his belt again.
