Johnson signs for 2 x $3,00,000 on a bridge, which I think is reasonable. Marner is bridged for 2 x $9,000,000, which I thin is reasonible.
3. The trades...
Trouba comes over from Winnipeg for Kapanen, Zaitsev and a 1st. Winnipeg gets a 2/3rd pair defender with term, a scoring winger and a decent pick for a disgruntled player who is going to go to arbitration. Trouba then signs for 5-years and $6,500,000 and gets to play top line minutes with Morgan Rielly.
Matthew Benning and Connor Brown both need a change of scenery. Maybe Brown can rediscover his chemistry with McDavid, while Benning gets a spot on the third pair in Toronto as a natural righty.
The Marleau one is me getting silly. In a Brooks Orpik situation, the Leafs take on deadweight salaries of $7,925,000 for Gaborik and McArthur (who immediately go Robidas Island) in exchange for an agreement to buyout Marleau, saving them around $3,000,000 in cash on the season. The Leafs then take Marleau back on a $1,500,000 contract for one year to finish out his career.
4. The Promotions
Up front Bracco, Engvall and Marchmant graduate to the big club out of necessity and spend the year rotating in and out of the lineup and between the 3rd and 4th lines along with new import Mikheyev.
On the backend Dermott moves to the right side on the second pair to make room for Calle Rosen on the 3rd pairs left side.
