Imagine clearing out Zaitsev and Marleau, having 6 guys on ELC or veteran minimum salaries, still needing to fill 3 roster spots, and having NO cap left. There's no way TOR makes it through this offseason without losing somebody that those fans are going to lose their minds over. They won't be in a position to acquire Trouba because they simply can't afford to with the other issues they've got to solve. WPG doesn't exactly have room to be handing out cash or taking on bad contracts, which is why they're in the position to deal Trouba anyways. That trade is a no from them, unless you think they're going to turn around and not sign Laine or Connor to keep Kapanen

Jets cannot afford those 3 Leafs players and Trouba is reportedly wanting to play in the US. It’d be nice if he would consider playing in Canada, then I’m sure the Leafs could offer Winnipeg something for him like Liljegren and a pick.

Why would the Leafs work so hard to clear that cap space and then spend it on Talbot and Lovejoy?

I understand your thoughts on the Trouba trade. You could also try a similar offer for Ekblad in Florida. The reason im giving Zaitsev back is because id assume Winnipeg would need a 2nd pair RD back in the Trouba trade that would be relatively cheap. If they dont want Zaitsev than that is optional we could move him in a separate trade. Honestly for Trouba i might even do Sandin+Aj+Kap but i think that is probably too steep. Im aware of the Trouba only wants to go to U.S rumors but some have said that really what he wants is to be close to Michigan, which Toronto is. No one really knows for sure what the story is there.

Any good free agent we could sign would need term. Having to re sign Dermott and Muzzin next year will be a priority so we will need money coming off the books.

3rd pair RD and more defensive d men who can PK is a definite need. Backup goalie is also very much a position we need to improve, we could likely find a cheaper solution but i think if we have the cap space we should use it.

What other UFAs could we get that could really help us on 1 years? Im open to hearing interesting ideas.
