OK so Kreider = 1st + Yamamoto + Pool Party with extension
So now you're looking at Georgiev + Pionk + Shatty retained for 2 cap dumps.... try again on this one.
Same thing with the Trouba deal. Trouba in this instance works just fine without the 1st rounder.
You can drop the 2nd on the Callahan deal. 6mil of dead cap costs a lot to take...
And you managed to put Howden as your 2C...
This is all kinds of wow.
Kreider is not worth that much. Anyone else in the comment section ( specifically Edmonton fans) may agree with me. I think Kreider gets you the 8th overall pick straight-up. Adding one solid prospect, and another young player who could be really good if utilized correctly is just too much. I think Georgiev is not necessary in this deal, it just made sense to me at the time when I was doing it. If Georgiev and Gagner are taken out, and 50% is retained on Shattenkirk, I think this trade is more fair.
As for the Winnipeg deal, the Jets get a 2nd/3rd line forward who could put up 35-45 points in a season, a good prospect in Yamamato, a defensive defensemen prospect in Lindgren, and a late first rounder. I think this is fair. Without the first, teams like Detroit, Philly, and NJ can beat this offer. Plus, there is nothing that the Jets can be sure to pan out for them in this trade other than Strome. With the 1st round pick, they get something more promising and worthwhile.
Now the Tampa trade: I don’t see TBL giving up a first rounder to dump one year of Callahan. I think Keane could be removed, but the 2nd is important. After all, we are moving up 29 or so picks in the first two rounds, which is quite a significant jump.
Lastly, I don’t see a problem with playing Howden on the 2nd line. I’m also not the coach so I wouldn’t know best. My reasoning behind putting him there is his play in the beginning of the year last season. It looked like he was going to have a solid season with 40-50 points and things started going downhill as a result of his consistency issues. If he comes to training camp ready, and works his butt off this summer, I think he could be a fringe 2nd line center, but if not then I accept that I’m wrong.
