Description
Considering MTL got Armia + 4th + 7th for taking Mason's $4.1mil contract.

What could they get for taking Clarkson's $5.25mil from Vegas? Could Haula be had? Would give even more flexibility to move a winger. Or Habs could flip him for a LD?

Taking contracts which will be on LTIR doesn't really provide much benifit to the team trading it away. In fact it could have value in its own right to a team near the cap like, idk, Vegas. The only real benefit to moving him is that it simplifies your cap situation as you don't have to worry about off-season LTIR utilization and don't have to plan for maximizing the benifit for the coming season.

well those are the benefits. I was just reading about how Vegas want to move Clarkson's contract. With the cap not going as high as everyone expected, the team that's hurt most by this is definitely Vegas. since they are already over the limit at 83.1$

The benifits really aren't as attractive as you might think. If I recall LTIR rules correctly they just need to get their total caphits to the cap + $5,250,000 before putting him on LTIR to maximize the capspace. Its a bit tedius and you'll have some paper transactions but they should be able to get within a hundred grand or so without much difficulty. The real downside with LTIRs is ELC bonuses, but even those are transferable to the next year if needed.

But that only applies if they have a long term deal already in place with Wild Bill , which may put them over the 10% threshold, they can put the feelers out there for Clarkson, but they probably won't move him, Trading a minor contract fixes that pretty quickly
