I don’t really know how much Gusev would be worth to the Knights. But considering the major cap crunch they are in, and the contract Gusev would require, he may not be an asset they are able to keep. They get a RHD prospect who projects to be a solid 2nd/3rd pair defenseman along with a 3rd round draft pick. They give up 3 minor cap dumps (Clarkson is minor too imo because he no longer takes up room once LTIR starts in the regular season). From this, Vegas gains between 8-10 million in cap space, two valuable assets, and lose Gusev.
He is someone who I believe can make a similar impact in the NHL as Panarin. Based off a calculation system, his KHL totals indicate that he can put up about 80 points in the NHL, but as the system certainly has its flaws, the number will likely be less (in the mid 60s to 70s).
In this scenario, the plan with Kreider is to trade him a month or two before the deadline if Gusev and Chytil show that they can both be great top 6 left wingers.
As for the right side, Kaapo, Kravtsov, and Buchnievich rotate between the 3 lines based off how Coach Quinn feels. I think Buchnievich would get moved in the future.
Shattenkirk has said that he is working hard and trying to rebound, and I believe that he will play well enough to regain trade value (not as good as he was before but good nonetheless) and be traded at the deadline.
Fox slots in as a 7th D, goes to the AHL, or Coach Q does something entirely different with him.
The main issue with this team is center, as there is little certainty that Howden and Anderson are ready to take on the 2C and 3C roles, but the hope is that they try and don’t be discouraged if they fail.
Anyways, this is what I hope for in the likely event that Panarin does not sign with NYR
