Description
Imagining a team next year. The Pominville signing I really looked at for this year but it works next year. If I guess too high on Pietrangelo, Dunn, or Barbashev by 1/2 Mil just imagine that signing and Sanford trade both don't happen
So for Dunn I look at Lindell + inflation for Pietrangelo I use Gardiner's HockeyGraphs contract prediction + a year & 3M/year bonus for infaltion & defensive prowess + captaincy.
I also am unsure if Allen goes somethign like Ottawa in the offseason or as a deadline deal with Husso emerging to something like the Wild if they are having a hot year and Dubnyk gets hurt but for simplicity I'm going Ottawa here

I'm mostly offended that you gave Barbashev more money than Sundqvist. Did we move Schenn, or just play out his contract and let him walk? I like the idea of acquiring Nuge, but that's pretty steep considering he will be a UFA at the end of the season. I also assume Fabbri and Eddy will bounce back a bit this year, so I think that would end up an overpayment. Can probably leave out the pick. No thanks to Pominville.

Since Pietrangelo will be 30 when he signs his next deal, I don't think he's gonna get almost $10mil a season for 8 years. I could see him signing something similar to Carlson's deal with Washington (8 x $8mil)

Erik Karlsson just got 8 X 11.5M at age 29 and Doughty got 8 X 11 as a 28 year old the year before, giving Pietrangelo under 10 is already giving the Blues a pretty big discount based on Alex being one tier below the other two, one or two years older than the other two and LA regretting Doughty's contract

yeah the idea there was that Barbashev signs for 1.365M for 1 year this year while Sunny signs a 2 X 2 then Barbashev negotiates for more next year. Maybe I was reading too much into it in which case yeah just assume Sanford is kept

Let him walk. Like an already on board rental for a cup run

I like the idea of acquiring Nuge

I know right? I kind of thought of it on the fly but what it really functions as a rental to fill Schenn's hole (kind of a bizzaro version of WPG's recent annual 2C rental) or better a Schenn replacement who is a free agent a year later when Steen comes off the books so he can be resigned and who will likely age better from being less physical when younger

No thanks to Pominville.

understandable. If we sign Barbie for less just imagine that is gone and Sanford stays as I say in the description or at least imagine it being like a Vanek swan song instead

this is my only disagreement, because what? I mean I get there is some hope of each of those happening but if we look at them
Eddy really only had one good half season (about as long as we thought Lehtera was the second coming of Oates) and it was probably more replacing an old, worn down Bouwmeester (boy after taking time off for his hip and time for his hip to recover he looked great in the second half, huh? Those iron man streaks are overrated and really tax players' aging curves) and looking good by comparison while paired with an excellent player.
Still he could be good

Fabbri on the other hand, he technically could bounce back but players with multiple ACL surgeries return to form less than half the time. He also was a speed player who loses a step to age + loses a step or two to the injury (though he still looked pretty fast last year but obviously not what he used to be) and even when he was excellent he wasn't much of a passer or defender really just lighting in a bottle who could finish extremely well and he passed and defended just well enough to be played by Hitch instead of sent down. He lost 2 years at a young age that were vital for developing those other skills (even if they were being developed at the NHL level) and now is left with just speed and finishing and the speed to a pretty big thump. The Fabbri is good ship has basically sailed

Which isn't to say that both can't bounce back, but not in any way that moves the needle on a trade or makes the Blues think twice about giving anything up barring anything crazy

That's not to say Edmonton wouldn't value both, they badly need defense and scoring wingers and Eddy is a decent young defender while Fabbri as a speedy finisher would be a great fit like a Rattie who actually has staying power (a young guy who basically has to be paired with a McDavid type to produce but flourishes with McDavid and Edmonton kinda has McDavid)
But really even valuing McDavid that trade is all about the pick, that's almost all of the trade value the Blues are offering in that scenario. You offer that without the pick you get laughed out of the room

The other two also won Norris trophies and have been finalists multiples times. I think it's going to depend on the kind of year he has this year, but I don't think he's getting $10mil a season until he's 39.
