This doesn't make sense on 2 Fronts.

A) the Rangers are giving up 2 players with at least 3 years of control remaining on them, along with a Draft pick, for an expiring Contract.

B) the expiring Contract they're acquiring costs more than the 2 players they are giving up combined, at a time where they are trying to dump salary.

I was thinking Rangers maybe acquire a good prospect for Kreider and flip him to STL. Lot of different paths.

This deal is not exclusive to the cap dumps coming. Kreider, Strome, Vlad, Shatty, etc all possible casualties. Obviously they'd figure out the numbers stuff first and this would be a later move maybe even in-season
