Deadline Day CHI
I really don't feel like Kane is a fit with the Rangers. Unless he holds the Hawks with his NMC, to the point where the Rangers can get him for pennies on the dollar, I just don't see him coming here.

Tarasenko (at 50% retention) for a 2023 1st and one (not both) of Ryder Korczak or Matthew Robertson seems to be the going rate at this stage.

Kravtsov still young and cheap. With the Cap Crunch looming, it's more beneficial to stick with him a bit longer than to give him up for that "mehh" package.

At the very least, you can remove Kravtsov and Jones from the Blues trade.
I'd take Harpur at meager Cap hit over Braun any day.

Habs would have to take Sammy Blais off the Rangers hands in that same deal for them to even consider it.

That old familiar NYR path
A Buyout during the Offseason keeps him on the books for 6 more years. Even with the Cap eventually taking a big jump, that's a little too long to endure. Going through it with Girardi was enough for me.
Maneuver enough through next year, right before his NMC wears off. Even if you have to move him with retention for a meager return, it's still a better option than 6 years under a Buyout.

Making Space
With the exception of the Monahan deal, every other trade requires a Pick/Prospect/Sweetener by Montreal to even be considered.
And even then, considering the impending Cap crunch, I still wouldn't see the Rangers taking on Anderson and that Contract.

Kane's not getting that.
Unless the price is considerably low, I think Ranger fans have jumped off the Kane bandwagon.
Either Tarasenko, or a mix of medium range options.

A 1st Round loss to the Devils after giving away premium Picks would not put me in a jovial mood.
But yes, always a possibility. The Florida Panthers proved it last Season.

The only one that's garnered some sort of interest is Ryder Korczak. Not as many Blues fans intrigued by Kravtsov, even though he would be an option.

Hathaway and his style of play will garner plenty of interest, but not for a 2nd. Probably hoping for a 3rd, at best. And likely not from the Rangers.

Debatable, but i wouldn't. I still think a 24' 2nd is fair for the combo, given that both are undergoing a resurgence from what they have previously brought to the table.
If they had been consistently putting up the production that they are now, then I'd have to say Yes. Given how they have both overachieved from recent years, I don't think Arizona would gripe much.
Granted, Cap space is everything now. So the fact that they are both dirt cheap could change things. But I didn't think the 24' 2nd was really lowballing them.

As of this morning, probably nothing. I learned the severity of his injury after I made this post. So unless he comes back soon and comes back strong, this trade might no longer be on the table.

Save the 2nd on Nyq who disappears when it counts most and draft a C this year? Korczak is 0/5 and -4 in AHL so I doubt he's NHL ready at all next year.
Or it would be Blais + '23 2nd + 3rd for Vali + Bju which seems to favor NY but "its a deep draft"
How do you value Bju vs Boyd 50%? Their metrics this year are both solid. Latter seems more valuable due to contract but worth an extra 2nd?</div></div>
Excellent take, Mon Ami.
Learning of the severity of Nyquist's injury following this post, I would pull the proposal for him altogether.
Boyd was a hot topic earlier in this Season, but has expectedly cooled off lately. Bjugstad has maintained his consistency, and is therefore of greater interest.

Well thought out, amigo.
I'd prefer the original package of picks for the combo, while holding onto Korczak (our pool of C Prospects is already shallow enough). But both proposals are definitely in the ballpark, value wise.

Would you rather have Kuli or Valimaki? Vali metrics are better and he's cheap next year + RFA after. Both are worth a '23 3rd I reckon.</div></div>
Much obliged, pal.
Valimaki would be intriguing. His value took a nosedive from his time in Calgary, where he basically fell off everyone's radar.
He has done relatively well with the Yotes. Considering he has more low cost term attached to him than Kulikov, that would definitely gather interest. Especially if he can be had at the same price.
Figured Arizona would actually try and hold onto him a little longer, for that reason.

If I'm handing over a 2024 2nd for Bjugstad, I'm either getting a 4th back in return, or dumping Blais there instead as part of the package.

I'm sure there is a middle range Prospect that could make up the difference, if need be.

Definitely need to upgrade that Pick to Arizona. A 6th isn't enough for Bjugstad alone, nevermind the fact that you're dumping Blais on them.

A Tarasenko deal probably required a 1st, to begin with.
If you're adding Blais to the package, it's an absolute necessity. Including a condition to make it the better of the 2.
