Assumptions:
Hall is not going to resign with the Devils, and his play as of late has had a minor hit on this value. He is not the same player who won the hart so few years ago.
The Canucks are in a bit of a cap crunch and need to make some moves going forward.

This trade basically shakes out as a Stecher, Markstrom and a mid-rounder for Hall and some retained value. The Canucks need a legit top6 winger to play with Bo and/or Pettersson. Return would be based on a trade-to-sign deal. Stecher is a perfectly good middle pairing RHD that can play a bigger roll when called on by injuries. Markstrom is a pending UFA and has been proving he is a high end starter over the last few years. His dip in play as of late can be tied to the very recent passing of his dad, and a move to the eastern seaboard’s main international hub allows him to be that much closer to home and family. He would be expected to resign with NJ, stabilizing the net and taking the pressure of young Blackwood... At least until the expansion draft. The mid rounder is a small sweetener for a little retained salary, and because JB always throws in extra picks for no reason. Vancouvers luck, it will be a Gaudette/Lockwood type player that NJ selects with that pick.

Schneider for Eriksson is swapping garbage for both teams, but Van gets a buyout friendly contract and a guy who can be a serviceable backup and mentor for the remainder of the year and they buy out Schneider in the summer (and maybe resign him to a better deal more commensurate with his new roll). NJ gets a serviceable NHL player at the same cap hit vs having to hord that money in the minors, but at a much cheaper salary than Schneider for the remainder of the same term. NJ doesn’t have cap problems and Loui’s hit helps them make the floor next year that much easier with the loss of Hall.

I think this is a **healthy** Canucks roster that could not only make the playoffs, but could do some damage in the first round. Maybe even make it to the 2nd round depending on the matchup. Whether they can stay healthy is an entirely different can of worms.
