Description
Does Hamonic signing a 1 year deal in WPG make sense? I'm thinking from a Expansion Draft point of view so hear me out: Hamonic genuinely wants to be in WPG long term. If they sign him to a 4/5 years deal and protect Morrissey, Pionk & Edmundson in this situation, he's the odd man out. So why not sign a 1 year deal and then re-sign for longer next off-season? That way he can remain a Jet for a longer time. This also makes the Edmundson signing more plausible as the Jets could offer him 1-2 years of a NMC making him ineligible to be selected by Seattle and allowing him to play in his home province for most or all of his deal.

If this were to come true, I believe Seattle takes Sami Niku as the best player available to them who isn't a UFA (eg. Hamonic, Lowry etc). Selecting Niku also doesn't hurt the Jets as they have Samberg & Heinola who should be up full time the following year.

Protection list as follows (7F/3D/1G):

FWD: Scheifele, Wheeler, Connor, Ehlers, Laine, Copp & Roslovic

DEF: Morrissey, Pionk, Edmundson

GOA: Hellebuyck

Am I crazy or does this at least make a little sense? I realize it is 110% dependant on Hamonic though.

100% agree! As would I, but for the purpose of this scenario I had to choose Hamonic. If we re-signed DeMelo then Edmundson would be exposed (again this is all hypothetical). Also, I thought DeMelo was a lock to re-sign in Winnipeg, I hope this break isn't jeopardizing that!
