This is no doubt a playoff team with no holes on the roster, given these moves

Trades
1.
BUF
  1. Bernard-Docker, Jacob [Reserve List]
  2. Nilsson, Anders
Additional Details:
This deal might seem like a huge L for the Sabres but hear me out:
Nilsson is worth way less than Risto and is a relatively cheap, but solid goalie. Significant upgrade from Hutton
Docker is worth a small bit more or maybe the same as Mitts.
A pick or so might need to go on OTT's side to even it out, but the Sabres saving around 4m in cap space makes it even imo
2.
BUF
  1. Toews, Devon [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
I question whether the Isles can afford him and need him based on the left side of their defense being held down for the foreseeable future with Pelech (who is a better player that they should take priority in signing over Toews), Leddy, and Hickey. They have Sebastion Aho (who is already NHL ready imo) and Robin Salo coming up in the future as well.

This exact same deal could be for Vince Dunn on STL as well, but this one seems more realistic
NYI
  1. Johnson, Ryan [Reserve List]
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
2019 first round pick and a second next year

They would buyout Leddy before getting rid of toews. For the isles to consider moving him, an A forward prospect + or top 6 winger would have to be going to the isles.

You really think he is worth that much? He has one proven year at the NHL level at the age of 26. I would also think you would want picks/prospects back for him considering you will need a ton of cap to resign Barzal/Pulock/Pelech/Beauvillier/Sorokin in the next two years. That's like $25-30m hit towards the cap. Would you let Pelech go before Toews? And how much extra cap would you get from buying out Leddy?

The issue with moving toews is he’s (at worst) gonna peak out as a top 4 puck moving dman who has a ton of potential to be a top pairing defenseman I think they’d get better offers than this

He has elite underlying numbers and he should have been in the NHL much earlier. He's our PP1 QB and best offensive defenseman while being borderline elite defensively. He plays on the 2nd pairing, but he brings top line value. I personally would trade pelech before toews.

Apparently there is interest in leddy and the isles have taken calls on him recently, but worst case scenario if they buy him out it saves 4.25 mill this season. His contract is very buyout friendly. Theres also rumors the isles are close to moving boychuk, so well see if that ends up happening.

By next offseason, Bailey and varlamov will be traded/taken by Seattle. Mayfield can be traded considering wilde is about a year away.

I would assume Mittelstadt and a top LD prospect/pick would not move the needle? I don't watch the islanders so I didn't know how critical he was to the D-core. It just seems like the Isles are coming into a hell of a cap crunch and it will be tough to keep everybody. Do you agree?
