EXPLANATION

If Ferland decides to give it another shot and is moved off LTIR, Canucks will have to send a player to the minors to afford him. The only way that works is if Leivo or Gaudette are on two-way deals, which I'm sure they won't want to be. If that's a problem JB encounters, he could trade Baertschi with 50% retained ($1,683,333) to any team willing to take him, plus whatever pick is deemed a fair market value. That gets $608,333 off the books, enough for Ferland to take a roster spot and to send Hoglander to the minors.

Pilut will be in the KHL for the next two years, but remains a good depth asset with Edler and Benn finishing their deals soon.
