My reasoning behind such a move is the expansion issue. I don't know if Carolina will be able to protect a young forward like Foegele at the expansion draft.

Pearson will almost immediately provide depth for a deep playoff run this season. I added a pick as incentive for the Canes to give up Foegele. But if Pearson were to go to CAR, what would be his return here?

Carolina's a good expansion target, but not for their forwards (as much as I like foegele). They're gonna want to re-sign Hamilton, and the three spots are him, Slavin, and Pesce. Would be more worth looking into Jake Bean or Haydn Fleury.

As for the others, with only one year left on both Roussel and Eriksson I feel like that's too much to give up for a cap dump, especially with the high likelihood that the 1st is a top ten pick. I like the Faksa deal, though I'm unsure if Dallas does it and I'm leaning no they don't, and I think that's close to fair value for Arvidsson normally but he's on a down year and it feels like a lot to give up for a team that can't really afford to squander assets.

Thank you for your feedback. I’m not sure if Vancouver would want to look at Haydn Fleury or Jake Bean as players they want to acquire considering the defensemen on the left side. Jack Rathbone may be ready for the NHL next season and Juolevi might get some playing time at the NHL level, considering he’s been blocked by Jordie Benn on the defense chart. If you remove Benn, then you can add Juolevi to the left side. Would be ideal if we traded Alex Edler and he’s willing to waive his NMC so he can go to a playoff contender at the deadline. If you trade for Foegele, there’s someone the Canucks can protect come July. If the Canes re-sign Hamilton, it’s not the end of the world for their defense if they lose another guy. They got lots of prospects they can trade to Seattle to suede them from not taking those defensemen. I think they’ll most likely go after Skjei or Gardiner in the expansion draft so that will be a sigh of relief for this team.

For the Roussel and Eriksson deal, Roussel can easily be bought out at the end of the season in Chicago so chooses. Hey, Toronto only had to give up a first round pick to give up Patrick Marleau a few years ago, and he’s back in San Jose. Eriksson as we know is pretty bad, and he’s been bad since he arrived in Vancouver. At 35 or however old he is, he’s not gonna be able to turn it around I don’t think. So why not trade him? I get what you’re saying about the picks though, might be an ideal trade if it is completed before the draft once they know where they’ll be picking. Or perhaps they’ll turn it around before the season finishes. Roussel and Eriksson are anchors that have been weighing this team down.

For the Faksa deal, I believe that Virtanen will be able to turn it around if he is away from his hometown. Dallas has a lot of young players in their system that they can easily that position with, and playing with guys like Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin might help him improve. It’s also just a matter of finding the right coach for him. Dallas fills their needs, and Vancouver fills their need for a 3C for the long term foreseeable future.

For the Arvidsson deal, normally he’s a good player but we haven’t seen much of that this year. Arvi may turn it around in Vancouver but he’s a pretty big deal in Nashville and a fan favourite I would have to say. Trading Adam Gaudette because after the Faksa deal, the Canucks don’t really need him if they’re pushing hard, unless he plays the fourth line with MacEwen and Vesey or whoever will be on the left side. Kole Lind is pretty much buried in Utica and bound to blow up in Nashville so he’ll be an interesting player there. Costmar is still a young prospect and if he can develop then he’s bound to have success in Nashville. The pick is just a pick. By the time Arvidsson’s contract is up, Podkolzin’s contract if he signs in the offseason will need an extension, so he can easily fill his role if he’s developed like he should.
