If Calgary does this deal it's after the expansion draft so Calgary wouldn't have to protect 4 defence.

Absolutely not!! Brodin has been tremendous this year and would return more than an oft-injured Swedish softy like Backlund!!

Backlund is in the Selke conversation and scored 30 in calendar 2016 anchoring the Flames best line. This is a terrible trade for the Flames, not the Wild. Also, it's been ages since Backlund missed serious time due to injury.
