Unless we have good reason to expect that Montreal will implode next year - making that 2022 1st more valuable than it presently looks - this is not going to work for Jones. There's just too many "don't care" assets in there and we're missing a true centerpiece asset.

And Jones really only plays RD, not LD, so why is Montreal taking an interest anyways?

mtl needs some elite level talent on the backend. i dont think ducharme minds playing two righties together. mtl needs 1 good scoring forward upfront (hoffman in my scenario) and they need an elite tier defenseman (Jones). I saw a CBJ fan post a trade similar to this, but I added the extra 1st rd pick. ristoalinen my not be "elite" but hes a good puck mover and someone that mtl could use. habs window is here as long as playoff price is here and the young guns continue to grow. jones helps us in a huge way. gives us a diff element on the backend.

I'm pretty sure you didn't see a Jackets fan set that up; what you saw was more likely a fan of some other team doing a Jackets AGM.

The structure of a Jones deal would generally have to be as follows: one pretty good prospect who stands a good chance of being a helpful NHL contributor (or the equivalent pick), AND one high-quality blue-chip prospect who stands a strong chance of being a future core player (or the equivalent pick). Fleury and this year's 1st are examples of the latter, and next year's 1st is probably also in that category. Poehling and Kulak and the 2nd are pretty much meaningless noise as far as the Jones return is concerned.

Basically, you're missing a centerpiece and trying to make up for it with two additional side pieces and a bunch of pointless extras, and that's probably not going to fly.

so say kotkaniemi or romanov + fluery/brook and a 1st and i add kulak just because of cap. does that make sense?

It's a lot closer to the template; I'd think Romanov would make it work. The question would then become whether or not it makes sense for the Habs, but that was already brought up. smile
