Description

The Oilers with their current lineup and goaltending are a playoff team. Obviously, they need to resign a couple key guys and let some of their young prospects step up. They do need to bring in a left winger to play with mcdavid, a left defencemen if klefbom is not ready to go and a decent third line right shot centre. The only change I would make to the lineup i posted is to bring in another left winger like goodrow or coleman if their younger guys are not ready to make the jump.

I would keep koskinen in a backup role. best case scenario he bounces back and we have two solid goaltenders paying 1A and 1B. worst case scenario he repeats the last year and we know have the cap room to remedy that at the trade deadline by trading koskinen and a sweetner for his replacement.

Yes, this past season of making the playoffs makes your statement of “the Oilers with their current lineup and goaltending are a playoff team” true, but making the playoffs and contending are two very different things. Changes need to be made for the Oilers to be doing any damage in the post season

Edmonton's first (19th overall selection) for Vanecek, Washington's second (54th overall selection) and the Arizona third they own would seem to be good for both teams, especially in light of the fact that several Oiler fans have told me that they'd like to see Edmonton select Sebastian Cossa there.
