Yeah, people are just ignorant and don’t actually know the details. Especially when a good bit of other teams do it every year. That was the hockey gods making up for 2015 when Tampa lost to Chicago who used the same loophole to win.

Tampa literally wanted to get rid of the loop hole and every other team said it was fair so they took advantage of it

It all worked out in the end if you really think about it. Got shafted by the rule and lost to eventually utilize it and win.
