Description
The risto trade was an overpayment, but he vastly improves the flyers. He was in a dumpster fire in Buffalo, Buffalo wanted him to be something he isn't and he makes them tougher to play against. I do not mind the first rounder since Chuck is good at drafting players in the later rounds and this draft is kinda of a crapshoot with players and picks. They got 2 RHD T4 D-man without making their team any worse than it already was. This could be me just trying to be positive so many people will disagree, but I think he will play well here and thrive. This is a stretch look at ROR, he said Buffalo made him hate hockey and the culture weighed on him, now look at him in STL. different types of player same idea. I think this might Help Risto and help him grow. Overpayment 100% but in the flat cap world you have to do it. I will not judge this trade until I see it on the ice.

Chances are they add a PKer for cheap- Mine guess is Nick Bonino and then they sign James Reimer. both one year deals.

Okay soooooooooo here's how I like to look at the trades.

Ryan Ellis for Phil Myers, Nolan Patrick, 13th pick.

Ristolainen for Ghost and two 2nd rounders

Yeah its an overpayment but they did not give up any key roster players and prospects for T4 RHD, its an overpayment but we still have a lot of good prospects.

Yea I 110% agree. If you move the packages around it's easy to edge yourself off the cliff. In full honesty, I'm not too worried about the draft picks. the flyers are deep in the prospect pool and eventually, you have to try to win. I wonder about a risto extension. I'm assuming somewhere between 5.5-6 million for like 4-6 years? kind of a spitball idea but just judging it off what the other D men are getting on the flyers (provy 6.75 Ellis 6.25). with that and the sanheim deals done the top four is locked up for the next 4ish years and this is probably the best top 4 the flyer have had since 2010

Chuck said he's probably going to wait until next offseason. I hate that part of the trade. If you trade for Risto and don't get him under contract on a team friendly deal for the price they paid, thats where its bad. Allowing him a chance to out-perform what he did in buffalo. Then the fact you gave up so much for him, thats bargaining chip for Risto's agent. Hey you obviously value this player a lot, and to have another guy to re-sign that we invested heavily in is rough considering we have G, Coots, Farabee coming up next year and haven't got rid of JVR or Voracek's contract. Thats the worst part of this trade. This draft is so hard to judge, I don't really care about the 13th pick.
