Not a bad deal for Chicago, they get a second rounder and Johnson is a decent player.

Tampa is just so well run - next offseason they likely let Palat walk and use that cap space on Point's next deal. The following offseason Killorn is up just in time for Cirelli's next contract. Then Stamkos the year after with more RFA's likely to sign bigger deals. Will be interesting to see if Killorn and Stamkos resign for significantly less or go elsewhere.

Hi winthecup, I'd rather say Tampa has had a luck in managing player contracts. Sooner or later they run into problem if their draft picks are not ready to replace Palat, Killorn or Stamkos who may not stay healthy throughout the season.

Is it luck if they keep doing it though? They've got a pretty good track record of drafting and developing players and seem to have a good pipeline of 23-24-25 year-olds ready to step in and contribute. Seems like they're set up well to keep doing that and contending regularly.

Obviously there was some luck with the timing of Kucherov's injury and return this year, but they won the cup without Stamkos the year before too...

Johnson is still good thankfully it isn’t like he’s out of his prime
