Somewhere in the multiverse, there is a world in which the Wild didn’t get hammered by the CBA with the Suter/Parise buyouts, they won the Eichel sweepstakes, and also added a key piece at TDL in Forsberg for a cup push. This is an exploration into that world. It’s purely for entertainment.
Is this a cup team?
I tried to keep things somewhat logical. The basic trade values in this world are the same as ours. Main themes are as follows:
-Wild lose Kahk instead of Soucy
-Wild don’t sign Goose & the others in ANA trade.
-Wild pickup a backup tendy (VV is just a proxy)
-Wild win the Eichel sweepstakes. Gets surgery earlier and plays most of the year.
-Wild add a LW at TDL
-Parise/Suter bought out or traded. The point is that the cap recap isn’t as severe or nonexistent (I’m not a lawyer in this multiverse so use your imagination on how this is a thing)
Without the buyouts this is a cap compliant team. Future is rough but this team has some firepower. Are they actually good enough to win? I’m not sure.
Only one I disagree with you about is wild acquiring a winger, specifically a top 6 winger
I’ll be honest, that was the one I felt a little iffy on too. Idk that I would have done it, if not for Fiala and Forsberg being buddies. I think they’d have success together, but i agree that’s it’s a pretty shaky move.
The one I disagree on is kahkonen <-> soucy with kahpo an RFA still youngish enough to have potential (many peak 25+) and soucy easily replaceable
Odd to see Soucy 1LD
Especially given they acquire another winger here
If anything what about a Girard trade
Yeah i agree with that. Soucy at 1LD made me cringe a bit, so I think it needs workshopping.
So if we keep the storyline of Seattle picking up Soucy, we keep the Talb/Kahk tandem, but have a gap on LD.
Girard is a decent idea, but I sort of worry about size with him and Spurge as a pair. I am fine undoing the Forsberg trade if we want to use those assets elsewhere.
I’m not sure how to solve LD issue and also deepen top 6...?
