Description
No trades have to be made before expansion draft. This will help other teams protect who they need to and then obtain the players from VAN. Rebuild/Tank, whatever you prefer to call it these days. Gudbranson, Horvat, and Tryamkin receive bridge deal. Demko gets another year of development in AHL. Overpaying for Eaves but you it gets the team above the cap floor.

Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Hanifin, Noah
  2. Ward, Cam
  3. 2018 3rd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Hanifin is considered to be one of the top young prospect defensemen. Vancouver takes this because no other team has enough surplus at a position or cap space to deal for the Sedins. The brothers will most likely only move together, so this deal may just be best case scenario for the Canucks.
CAR
  1. Sedin, Henrik
  2. Sedin, Daniel
  3. 2018 7th round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Carolina can fit this in the cap. McClement 1.2 is off the cap. Cam Ward 3.3 is off the cap. Bickell 3 is off the cap. Hainsey 1.4 is off the cap. Wisniewski buyout goes from 3.5 to 1, freeing up 2.5. They are freeing up over 10 mil from these guys leaving. This, on top of the near $20 million they have in cap space already (with the cap increase to 75 mil) will allow this trade without other plans getting interfered with. The Sedins are still producing well on a bad team. Put them on a young and upcoming Canes team with a great defensive core and other offensive role players and they would benefit.

Your logic of why the Canes would trade for 14m of Sedins confuses me. The Canes aren't in the business of taking on Canucks excessive cap space....just because. Ditto for that NJD trades. Maybe the Buffalo trade too.
Buffalo could acquire a 5m "excess Dman" easily without giving up so many assets.
Horvat: If the Canucks really feel,"he's the man". I'd lock him up for longer.

Overpaying a player like the Canucks have done before does not guarantee he will be good or will sign. Eaves is a good player but the guys he's played with are pretty damn good too. I don't see Eaves going to a rebuild team like the canucks, no matter how much money you throw at him.

Eaves would not sign here for more than Horvat. Way too much.
