Marc Staal is staying in Detroit, And Johnny Gaudreau $9,000,000 x 2 years with the Devils goes elsewhere. Try closer to $9,500,000 x 7 years to sign him.

And what’s up with the Staals?

NJD have youngest team in NHL (younger than half the AHL teams). Might be culture shock.

I like Gaudreau, but I'm firmly against the Devils signing him. Not that he wouldn't be a good player for the Devils, but he'd cost too much money and require too much term and I think the contract will age poorly.

Plus the Devils already have too many undersized forwards in their top 6. I think it'd be better for them to go after Forsberg if he remains on the market.
