Description
I’m very aware that this is not realistic. Just felt like doing something chaotic that centered on Kaprizov getting some help while also keeping him happy.

Not my intention to trigger or troll, as this is a light hearted ACGM.

What is off with the value of both trades and why don’t you think he’d waive to play with Kaprizov?

Im legitimately asking, not trying to get into a shouting match

i think kuzy has a great relationship and is a central part of the core in washington with ovi, backstrom, carlson, oshie, wilson, and is deeply settled in the city. because of this, i don't think he would want to leave even though i agree playing with kaprizov is maybe the best gig in the nhl right now. Also, dont think caps would risk the happiness of the core for an immediate downgrade to hartman, even with the cap savings. he's basically been a career 25 point guy until this year whose career year would be one of kuznetsov's worst ever. In terms of NHL22 style value bars matching up, i don't think its that far off, but for a variety of reasons the caps moving kuznetsov would require either an immediate upgrade at 1c, or a massive overpayment in future value, which this deal gives neither of.

as for hathaway for greenway, i think both players are extremely similar -- physical, 25-30 points, loved by teammates and fans. Once again i think value in a vacuum is pretty close, but caps aren't the team to take on more salary in what would for them be a swap of fourth liners, even with the 4th rounder as compensation and greenway being a couple years younger. If the caps had completely fell apart this year or been completely dominated and swept by the panthers (a la nashville or san jose), maybe both of these would be pretty attractive. as long as they are not rebuilding though, they just aren't the team to make these kinds of trades with.

So im not a caps fan but im gonna give a try as to why I think they decline. So for the Kuzy trade I think its an easy no. This is the case because caps are deep into win now mode. Draft picks are borderline irrelevant for them right now. Despite that they have a ok ish prospect pool. Going from Kuzy to Ryan Hartman makes no sense for a team that really wants to win now when he was a big part of the core that beat vegas for the cup. Hartman would fetch a decent price on the market due to the caphit but the value will tank because people will be like "Thats the Kaprizov effect" in regards to his quality season this year. There not wrong either. Plus the retention kills any chance at this trade for them.

Now for the Greenway trade, I think it actually makes no sense for either team. So Greenway is great for the wild with the greef line and that kinda kills the whole trade. However for the caps they have a quality top six with plenty of wingers. Mantha, oshie, ovechkin etc.... So adding greenway to play in the bottom six doesn't make a whole lotta sense when hathaway is a quality heart and soul depth guy and half the price. I dunno, the caps on reflection probably do this trade but i can understand the logic of being against it.

Sorry for the rant but love talking hockey.
