Description
D. Strome acquisition below:

Here it gets little delicate. Strome would come relatively cheap but also has decent value and is showing pretty good individual analytics. Him being a LS is a negative to it given the Jets needs.. I admit. Prospects and a pick going the other way to help CHI rebulding. I know people might say we enough C prospects to fill that 2C spot one day but... Perfetti might very likely stay on the W, either for short period or even long term. Altough we have Lucius for the long term C perspective as well, I still believe it doesn't hurt to have another C for depth reasons role-wise. You can always play Strome on the RW or just move him one day, as you wish. Some of you are going to say this is an overpayment from the Jets, I'm sure, but I still believe the value is even. Strome isn't some kind of a bottom 6 slug but a decent 2C that don't grow on trees.

Lyubushkin:

He is great when it comes to even strength defense. Has size and toughness, would be a good choice as 3rd pair dman. Signed for 2 years only since Gawanke should overtake that RHD spot soon.

Additional Details:
1) Many DET fans agreed to the Schmidt trade on this page. If DET isn't interested, though, I believe there will be a possible landing spot for Schmidt for a 4th round pick elsewhere
2.
WPG
  1. Ruhwedel, Chad
Additional Details:
Ruhwedel as 7th RHD, depth purpose. Terific even strength defense analytics. This isn't exactly a pre-season move but let's asume we are building a PO ready, fully stacked team over here

  1. Dillon, Brenden
Additional Details:
I know he brings size, toughness and grit but he isn't "that" good defensively to steal a spot from Heinola and Samberg who just have to play this season, both of them. If the Isles don't accept, it's the same story as in Schmidt's case. Assuming NYI will be looking for that LHD to replace Chara and Greene.
Some of you probably don't think Heinola isn't ready but given the little opportunity he got, he has been pretty good. There isn't a better puck moving Dman in the Jets organization right now. Heinola makes smart moves, is pretty good in zone entries and will be the future 1PP guy I'm sure. He isn't going to be demolishing people to the boards but is the kind of a modern Dman the Jets need. And for all of you thinking he is too small, he is literally one CM shorter than JMo and Pionk

CAR
  1. Scheifele, Mark
Additional Details:
Let me explain before you send me to hell.

First of all I believe Chevy will most likely not move Scheifele at all. But I believe (and not only because of Stastny's recent press conference comments) that he really causes little issue in the locker room. Just looking back at him and Laine, if played together, they didn't work at all. Two all-individual players chasing goals. This season showed that Scheifele doesn't give a f*ck. He is an elite PPG forward signed to a team friendly contract but he lacks the leadership and the overall effort a 1C should show.

Where to land Scheifele, though?

Some people say Scheifele should earn back a top 6 C and a solid RHD. This doesn't really make sense though. A contending team that needs those 2 years of Scheifele won't most likely move those 2 pieces to end up being the same as before the trade. If you do a serious research and go through every single NHL team, there aren't many that would actually meet the criteria:

1) Scheifele's contract length need to reflect their SC window
2) The team wouldn't mind having one of the league's worst defensive forwards on C
3) The team needs to provide rational return that reflects Jets needs

- NYR is most likely signing Copp as their 2C
- BOS isn't giving away the return the Jets would seek (=isn't moving Carlo)
- CBJ is probably getting JT Miller + Laine and Scheifele don't really work together
- The rest of the teams are either rebuilding or right after rebuild, are stacked on C and/or Scheifele doesn't fit their contending window right now, altough it's close (DET or BUF).

In my scenario, atlough it's not very likely, CAR could bring Scheifele in to have that elite offensive weapon (would probably play W under Rod) and Scheifele's contract does reflect the contracts of Aho, Teravainen, Pesce and Skjei. I know they would like to keep Necas but if they need to maximalize that offense right now, someone would have to go to return Scheifele.

With Andersen, Kochetkov and Lafontaine they could move Mäkiniemi who would be a solid G prospect for the Jets.

If the return for Scheifele isn't enough for you, I get it, this is just a basic proposal that could be changed which is something I'm willing to do so if suggestions are submitted.

Detroit accepts.

Schmidt is a good option to solidify our left side defense until our prospects mature. He is both good enough to play with Seider and mentor him as well as take on the job of QB-ing our second PP. His contract isn't a problem for us and when he's no longer needed he'll still have trade value considering the (slowly) rising cap and Detroit's ability to retain salary. He is also capable of playing both sides which may come in handy in case of injuries to Seider or Hronek.

I definitely don't think you under value Scheifele that much although alot of people will disagree. You look at players like Taylor Hall who was considered a locker room cancer and the return he got was quite underwhelming, nothing against Adam Larsson. Other GMs I would expect to have a personality bio on most players in the league so they know what type of player he is behind closed doors. The jets can't expect the few teams willing to take that risk to overpay to acquire him. I also think Carolina could be a possible destination for him but I think they keep their assets and just resign Trocheck if they are going to have the cap space for him. A few other dark horse teams I could see possibly taking a chance on Mark could be the Islanders as they probably feel they are still a contender who just had a bad year, which I think they could be. I'm not sure they have the right pieces to acquire him but that's another conversation. Another dark horse team that might be in the market for a high profile player could be Nashville. They have been a fringe playoff team that hasn't gone very far lately and they might look at Scheifele as someone to help them get their. They have a really good defence and other good defensive players to cover for his deficiencies in his own end. They also have the assets that would probably be required for the trade to happen.

I still wish they would have traded for him last year. He was one of my main targets on the teams I made before the season started.

Agreed. I didn't consider NSH at first since it seemed to me they are stacked on C but they could teoretically play Granlund on wing. Might come with a Scheifele / NSH trade later though. When it comes to NYI I can't think of the returning value either.

I just think of them being a player being desperate to get back into contention and firing Trotz after one bad year makes me think they could make other rash moves.
