Because he’s a FA in TWO years nah he still has sooooo much value and he can definitely sign long term else where obviously just didn’t want to sign long term in Winnipeg

From The Athletic (July 13th): "Dubois’ agent, Pat Brisson, told TVA Sports on Wednesday that Montreal is a place Dubois would like to play before stopping himself. Brisson hedged and everything was in theoretical terms but Dubois’ desire to play for the Canadiens someday is well known. I’m also told that Montreal has reached out to Winnipeg with trade proposals since the draft but that the offers have been inadequate."
