Description

This is where the “core” is established, we resign Matthews and Marner to a 6 year contract (keeps the Cap Hits Lower, and it will give us more flexibility since that’s when Tavares’ contract ends too).

Kapanen is resigned to a Silfverberg type deal.

We have to trade away Zaitsev and Martin because of the cap, Zaitsev would be a good player still but I’m not sure about Martin. Depending on how good Brooks gets but we might even have to trade Kadri away too.

Skip out on signing Tavares for that much and this would be pretty good. He's a fantastic player but with the cap looking like it'll be pretty flat for a while $10M a year is a little much for me. Move Nylander to C and let the wing prospects and some lower tier UFAs sort the wings out. With the 10M saved you could keep Zaitsev if he progresses well or sign/trade for another RHD.
