Marlies roster

First of all, thanks for doing the work! Any suggestions to the above are simply opinions not criticism, because not only have you sorted through it, it appears you have done some ranking!
I see Aaltonen as first option to the Leafs main roster and in fact may make the big club out of camp as an extra forward. Can play both ctr. and wing!
I think that Kapanen either makes the Leafs, and/or is the forward used as part of a package in a deal. (No value in having him play in minors)
I agree with you that Leafs wouldn't have signed Liljegren if they weren't keeping him in Toronto! Likely see him ahead of Holl! Holl was actually pretty good second half last year!
Borgman a "hell of a player" and might be the lefty that you describe in your description, if we decide to move/demote Marincin/Marchenko
Nice catch: I think Nielsen is likely NHL ready, pending a big summer training and good camp and should a deal involving a LW occur creating a spot top 9 might be the guy you look to! Grundstrom close to helping as a bottom 6 winger as well. Likely ahead of Soshnikov

Thanks for creating this opinion forum, it's incredible how far this team has come in terms of skilled players and depth! Should be an exciting year ahead! I have my season tickets.

There is a lot of depth, considering this is just the guys on NHL contracts.

I think Kapanen will be with the Leafs. Rychel will not clear waivers, so he'll be with the Leafs or gone. Rosen will probably play the right side. Liljegren will go back to Sweden. Gauthier is injured. That's basically the team. They should be very competitive.

My question to you "thisguygm", is if the Leafs were looking to send Liljegren back to Sweden, why would they enter into his entry level contract now? Leafs (once Brown signed) are fully maxed out on contracts (50), and if that was the plan why not delay his signing by a year? I like the idea of moving Rosen to the right side for depth and leaving him there!

For what I read it seems Liljegren will play with Marlies as his team in sweden,Rogle, almost got relegated last year, and relaationship with Rogle is not very straight forward...playing here Leafs can control how he is used on ice,how he eats, trains etc etc. To start season will be protected on third pair, the guy has to get used to smaller rink, and take the steps from there.
Doing this you can see there is imbalance LW, exactly opposite as Leaf roster, someone has to crack it and take JVR spot when he is gone, the most seasoned are Johnsson and Rychel (and Leivo who I think leafs will give the chance to take that spot). I think Kapanen and Shosh will start with Marlies just because they can be called up and get back down without going through waivers. Kapanen is 20, some patience, next year there are openings and more seasoning won't hurt, why trade him away now.
The Marlies D actually is quite full, looks much much better than years ago, I think one of the 4 Lefties goes up, then Valiev, Rosen and Borgman all can play right side...many options.
Babs and Lou said the club needed depth, look at it now, the turnaround they had made in 2 years is amazing.
Leafs can afford to keep JVR/Bpzak/Komarov for this year run and lose them in FA no problem, there are kids coming and have draft picks to keep filling the pool.

I'm speculating, just like everyone else, but when they asked him at the draft he didn't say "I'll play wherever theya want me to", he said he'd be returning to Sweden for at least one more year. He's an 18 year old kid. Swedes like developing over there. He fell awrfully far in the draft. I think he has something to prove over there. He's at least 2 years away from a full time NHL role. Why not let him show what he can really do over there and then bring him to the AHL. I would argue he'll have more room to develop his skill on the larger ice. The NHL contract is something earned. His performance at the development camp and the way he's presented him they're showing him he's part of the future. The 50 SPC limit is another matter. They shouldn't have signed 3 career AHLers to contracts if they were concerned about that. There are moves coming. Maybe minor or maybe significant.
