That is way too much for 1 year of Matthews. If Toronto cannot get him signed, they have zero leverage, and he will go to FA. AZ can just make a big offer then and keep all of their assets.

Matthews is a top 10 player so a return for a year with the option for long term contract is still going to be large. Counteroffer below...
