The issue is that the Maple Leafs (and their huge numbers of educated fans on CF) would never accept that for Marner. This is THE issue…Canes fans wouldn’t give up what it would take the Maple Leafs to trade Marner. And Maple Leafs fans aren’t going to accept what the Canes would be willing to offer.

The only trade that makes any sense for the Leafs/Canes involves Nylander and Pesce…but see point #1 above.
