I think Debrincat is a better player than Necas. Breakout year aside, Cat has shown that he can score when Necas has been shaky. That being said, we haven't seen him in a defensive system, as Senators fans are happy to point out they DJ Smith doesn't have one. I don't think he would score nearly as much as in Chicago or Ottawa (which is less than what Necas produced last year), and I don't think that the extra (projected) 5.5 Million cap hit is worth his production even if he rebounds.

FWIW I could see Necas being a ppg player in Carolina, or regressing slightly to 60 points on the year, but I don't think Cat would make more than a ppg either and again, the difference in cap hit allows Carolina to pay a bit extra for a good 3LD or even just sign a second line winger rather than trade for Cat.

Carolina and Debrincat are a perfect match. I think he is EXACTLY what they need.
I think Necas is a good 70 point scoring winger who I could see mesh well in their top 6. Also Debrincat will be signing long term in Carolina in this scenario.
In terms of 1 for 1 swaps, I think this is fair.

Why not? I would rather have Debrincat than Necas, but not by much.

Necas for Cat is a lateral move, unless Necas wants out of CAR i dont see CAR trading him
