Description
So the top 2 lines could be set if Slafkovsky and Michkov develop well, which should not be too much to ask.
Then the third line can be 3 of the following:
Roy Farrell Mesar RHP or Free Agents
The 4th line is made up of the remaining guys (Evans, Pezzetta, Davidson, Rohrer, Tuch, Ylonen, Heinemann, Mysak, Kapanen),
Montreal's top 4 on defence can be Guhle, Hutson, Barron, Mailloux.
The third pairing can be Harris or Xhekaj.
Montreal drafts a goalie (hopefully Hrabal) in the 2nd round this year.
Montreal uses their first round picks in 2024, 2025 (Montreal and Calgary) and 2026 to fill holes in the roster.
The success will depend on drafting and developing well, but if they can develop Hutson. Mailloux and Hrabal at the very least there could be a recipe for success.

No crazy trades necessary (which I enjoy making, but still)

Jets fan here. I agree and disagree. I think HABS fans will say too much, but Jets fans would be silly not to take that deal. That's a very good offer for PLD.

I think it is fair offer based on quantity. At least one of those futures should hit. But I admittedly know little about MTR prospects.

Well let's see,

Beck is a great 2 way center with top 6 upside and a 3rd line center floor. According to Dobber prospects his NHL certainty is 9.5 out of 10 and his Fantasy upside (star player projection) is 8.0 out of 10. His PNHLe as of the end of the season is 48 or 2nd line potential.

Kidney doesn't project as well as Beck but still a respectable 7.0 in both NHL certainty and fantasy upside. His PNHLe is higher than Beck's though due to his back to back 100 point seasons in the QMJHL at 65 or 1st line potential.

Struble's numbers are not as encouraging with a fantasy upside of 7.5 and an NHL certainty of just 5.5 he could develop into a good middle/bottom pairing guy, he had a great showing in Laval at the end of the season so there is still a good shot at him taking the next steps. His PNHLe has dropped to 3rd pairing levels or 24 due to his down year in the offensive categories.

Add to that a late 1st + 2 2nds and yeah it is a serious overpayment. My suggestion would be remove 2 of Beck, the Panthers 1st or the Habs 2nd in 2025 and it's much closer, however the Jets aren't interested in futures management has said they still want to compete which means retooling not rebuilding.

Ultimately, if Chevy isn't taking back futures, he can either trade his players for lower value or watch them walk for nothing. Very few contenders have a surplus of any position so Chevy expecting hockey trades of fair value isn't realistic. Especially when Winnipeg needs to rebuild badly.

BTW, thanks for the prospect updates. I do appreciate it.

I agree and TBF if a bidding war for PLD does break out then this may be what is required to get the deal done. IMO though I wouldn't include Beck under any circumstances, he has great potential and could end up at the Suzuki/Dubois level and that would be an amazingly balanced center lineup with those 3 in the top 9 and Evans as 4C.
