Description
My takeaways from MacLellan's press conference and general vibes around the draft:
1) there is a leaguewide squeeze on moving money
2) the Caps will not be giving away Mantha or Kuzy for nothing or even attaching assets to them (no Johansen or Bailey type moves)
3) they still want to add a top 6 forward
4) Fehervary is definitely returning and is not trade bait
5) Wilson is not being moved, but an extension probably won't come until the season actually starts

DeBrincat comes in under Meier and PLD, above Kyrou and Fiala. Don't like only having a 21 man roster but it's worth it to add a legit top-6 player. Cap will be tough next year with raises for Wilson, McMichael, Protas, and Sandin but Oshie, Kuzy, and Backy will all be in the last years of their deals making them a lot easier to move or buy out if necessary. Good RD are always in high demand too so TVR or Jensen could definitely be moved for a good return and replaced with Iorio.

Trades
WSH
  1. DeBrincat, Alex [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
I know this probably isn't what Sens fans want, but they are going to have to take back some bad money in the form of Mantha and DeBrincat is coming off an only ok year. A 1st from a team that is far from guaranteed to make the playoffs is pretty nice, and Lapierre is a good prospect that still needs one more year in the AHL but projects as a 3c.
OTT
  1. Lapierre, Hendrix
  2. Mantha, Anthony
  3. 2024 1st round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
DeBrincat still seems like the natural fit with Ottawa already saying they're moving on. The pick is top-8 protected.

Honestly not the worst. Maybe an additional pick coming back?

I personally like this

Mantha is inconsistent but not completely useless. Overpaid but could be an efficient 2-way top-9 forward

I like Lapierre and hopefully he develops also into a good top-9 forward. That 1st is quite valuable

Love this scenario. Do think we would need to add a 2025 2nd tho.

Would move the lines around a bit too. Backy definitely needs third line minutes

I feel like other teams already offered more and after what LA gave up for PLD, I don't see Ottawa settling for much less

If you listen to CF Wings fans, DeBrincat is barely worth a late 1st round pick tears of joy

Flyers, Wings and Habs fans on this site are quite delusional compared to other fanbases.... weird
