(1) If you trade Samsonov before his arbitration award, you can't buy out Matt Murray.

(2) Los Angeles has three goalies on the roster now, and doesn't really need Samsonov.

(3) Los Angeles is over the cap right now, and would have to send Kaliyev or Clarke down to Ontario temporarily to get under on Opening Day (or risk Rittich to waivers). This trade has $650,000 cap going out and $1.15 million plus whatever Samsonov is going to cost coming in, so it doesn't work from a math perspective.

Flames are giving up, Way too much for Marner and scraps. No reason for Calgary to make that trade.
