We don't see this a lot, if at all, but I think there is some creative ways NHL teams can integrate defensive players into the offense by dressing 8 Defenseman instead of only 6.
(1) if a Dman gets injured during a game there is more depth.
(2) Dressing 10 FWDS allows the FLYERS to keep constant pressure on the opponent because every line will be a scoring threat.
(3) 10 fwds means maximum ice time for young players Frost, Farabee, Foerster and Cates and allows them to focus on developing their overall game by playing with different linemates constantly.
(4) This type of synergy builds overall team chemistry.
(5) This strategy allows the FLYERS to prevent Andrae from going back to Sweden and allows Andrae to be utilized creatively in unique offensive situations.
(5) The Flyers have the versatility to adapt and create checking lines during the season. Veterans Seeler, Deslauriers, Ristolainen, and Hathaway all have the ability to hit and Philly could even experiment with Seeler, Ristolainen, or Staal as Wingers (obviously starting in the defensive zone)
