Description
They can sign Nylander for a joke, this contract gives him 74 million, if he goes to FA then another team would have to pay him 10.57 to match what the leafs offer because they can only sign him for 7 not 8, also the leafs will pay it all out in signing bonuses so he will get more of his money faster.

Nylander is not leaving most teams that can offer him 10+ million are not great teams and they wont be able to afford the bonuses.

yes and over 7 years it is 70 million the leafs can offer more years. he would only get 70 mill and leafs give him 74 and he gets his money faster since the pay bonuses.

That 8/7 years argument is very weak.

1st of all, you gotta factor in how much hed make the the first year after the 7 years deal. Next, difference between 72 and 75 mil is so small that if he signs somewhere with lower taxes or lower cost of living, it offsets within a year.

I think hes probably staying tho but there are better arguments for why imo

Yeah i guess you are right there, but i will say the Leafs are one of the only teams who will pay out huge signing bonuses. For example Marner got 15 mill his first season in signing bonus that would be more than the 10 mill most teams would offer.
