Sens don't need to shed cap and if they did they're certainly not trading a 1st to do it. At this point Brännström and Fabbro are a wash, and Kubalik is on a 1 yr deal at $2.5M, he has positive value even if its a 7th rounder

Fabbro is solid defensively, so should be good with Chabot, who shouldn't play Rd at all. They get a working top 4. Half season Pinto comes back. But I think 2nd round pick could work for Preds.
The only real vaild argument is that now they no longer need to shed cap, which is true.

Dorion is bad, but if he gives up more than what he got for DeBrincat for Dante freaking Fabbro, that’s a whole new level of bad

Brannstrom had much better defensive metrics last season, he actually crushed 3rd pairing minutes

Make it a 2nd round pick then. But Sens needs healthy defence men at this point. They need Rd d-men, doesn't need to be Fabbro.

There is no point to panic, Brannstromm probably won’t be out for that long, Zub will be back soon. So in that point you’re paying a first and or second to Nashville for Fabbro to play on your bottom pair. That’s not smart asset management, especially if you are diminishing your forward depth in Kubalik, and have Guenette, JBD, Thompson, Kleven, Matinpalo, Larson, and Heatherington who can provide the same time with varying degrees of success.

In summary, this trade makes absolutely no sense for Ottawa, again because they are playing 7 D in Belleville cause they have 7 D that should play. You could also argue that Kleven should be in the NHL anyway. (He and Matinpalo were calaled up today.)
