Description
Hopefully the last few games have clarified that Montreal will be in a position to draft in the top 5 (at least top 10).
Some Habs fans on this site were proposing keeping Monahan and/or adding players to perhaps squeak in to the playoffs. We are not close to that. We need more high end prospects.
I suggest combining the Edmonton and Pittsburgh first round picks into a trading up scenario in either the 2024 draft or 2025 draft to get into the top 16. Late first round picks won’t help the rebuild nearly as much.

I am really hoping the Habs are in a position to pick one of Celebrini, Eiserman, Demidov, Catton, Lindstrom or Helenius in the 2024 draft. This is the type of top end prospect needed.

Carter won't waive for Montreal and Monahan is worth more alone

I tend to agree that Monahan is worth a 1st alone, but the 2 trades were made simply to get the first round picks and avoid a protracted string of posts saying: “Montreal will never get a first for Monahan” or that Edmonton would never do that, so I tried going slightly over the top as far as what the Habs give up. Really just focusing on getting the picks do that they have 6 round picks in the next 3 years.

The bigger issue is Carter still has a NMC and most likely won't waive it for Montreal
