Trades
1.
EDM
  1. Kähkönen, Kaapo
Additional Details:
EDM receives a very strong back up/ competition for Skinner.
I’m not going to argue about stat lines, anyone who watches hockey/ SJS knows Blackwoods been a phenom that will cost too much and Kaapo has actually been very strong and there is evident improvement in his play when you watch this year vs last (not just opinion, it’s visible since his first game this year).
SJS
  1. Campbell, Jack
  2. Holloway, Dylan
  3. 2024 1st round pick (EDM)
  4. 2026 2nd round pick (EDM)
  5. 2026 4th round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Looks like the Oilers are on a big upswing, I’d offer the Sharks a conditional first for this year - which would start the conversation of taking Campbell on more than any other asset on the table.

*CONDITIONS: Top 15 Protected Pick*
- Essentially playoffs or no pick -

Next - I offer a 2nd next year which SJS would easily jump on. I think a 1st and 2nd are more than fair for taking on Campbell, but I’ll add Holloway to close the deal. He’s nothing special so I can’t see it hurting EDM and SJ can invest some time into a 22y that EDM can no longer afford.
2.
EDM
  1. Rutta, Jan
Additional Details:
San Jose also includes Rutta.
He’s a leader, good voice in the room (if you watch some of the Sharks content he’s already an admired leader in the Sharks room), and brings cup winning experience and desire to win into their room. I think he’s a perfect example of a player EDM could use to bolster their team on and off paper; for cheap.
SJS
  1. 2025 4th round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
To keep the first layer of the trade from being massive I split it into two; these two trades happen in sync.
3.
EDM
  1. Monahan, Sean
Additional Details:
A return to glory. A cap dump from Calgary turns into a potential dagger into Calgary, in season or in the playoffs.

It would be a great pickup overall for depth, but also if you do face Calgary in a playoff race/ in the playoffs; you have a secret weapon on your third line.

BUT… BUT BUT BUT,
He won’t return a ransom. With his injury history, less then 50 games in the last two years, he’ll return MTL a good asset, but nothing to write home about. You already got a first to take on a real good NHL player, this is just a cherry MTL fans. Let Sean fly.
MTL
  1. Foegele, Warren
  2. Lavoie, Raphael
  3. 2026 3rd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Financially EDM needs Foegele gone, he could probably return a mid round pick so MTL flips him almost immediately or keeps him idc.
4.
EDM
  1. Chinakhov, Yegor
Additional Details:
Chinakhov and his agent are supposedly very unhappy and have requested a trade.

He was stretch of a pick and if he’s demanding out he won’t return a first or a 2nd or a 3rd. I’ll put up a Broberg in a 1 for 1 with Janmark.
CBJ
  1. Broberg, Philip
  2. Janmark, Mattias
  3. 2024 6th round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
CBJ gonna be making some trades so I’d expect Broberg to be relied upon more and more and receive heavier ice time/ investment as the year goes on.
5.
EDM
I think SM and Allen are going to be pricey (over a 3rd fully retained) and I see Monahan as who EDM is really scouting.

SJS get a first this year if not next (if EDM somehow regresses), and CBJ get a fair swap for a depreciating asset.

MTL gets a good prospect and pick, with an asset returning flip. SJS gets a pick they need in this draft, a 2nd + more. CBJ gets a quality swap.

I don’t understand this notion of sharks fans (or not) and the idea of declining a first + a 2nd + a former first. It’s not trying to be rude towards you, I just truly don’t get it at all.

You pray that the Pens miss but aren’t top 11 and you hope to select Zayne Parekh (or draft up, which having EDM first or another first helps you tremendously)

hope the hockey gods/ lottery allows to select Celebrini and not CHI, then you collect more assets to accelerate your rebuild.

Holloway is a waste, a first a quality draft/ any draft is valuable if you hit, and a 2nd is solid.

San Jose DOES NOT NEED TO BE STINGY.
Can you outline why SJS is better off not taking on Campbell for a 1st, Holloway, 2nd (we can disregard Rutta and other assets). Because I guarantee no fan can provide a valid argument to why SJS should not accept.

    - he’s a waste of AAV/ cap
—SJS does not have any cap problems if they trade/ let the following walk
. Hoffman, Duclair, Barabanov, Kahkonen, Labanc
Labanc is guaranteed gone, the other 4 are highly likely trade bait and gone either way. I’ve literally got a draft where I trade for Weber and have Vlasic as a HS just so I can make the cap floor and I did not make any trades that matter.

    -Campbell is bad
    — and the sharks aren’t tanking?

    - Holloway is bad
    — repeat, and he’s 22 lol

    - Campbell should cost more
    — and if EDM refuses to pay more then we should accept this (proposed and fair) offer for both parties.

If you're willing to eat $20 million for that, go for it. It's not a great trade for the Sharks to basically give the Oilers the out that they're looking for.

It’s also brutal cap management to not weaponize cap for assets? Can you name any other team that will take on Campbell?

Anaheim - they’re trying to exit their rebuild
    Montreal - repeat
Ottawa and most of the league - no money
PHI - trying to exit their rebuild
    CBJ - repeat
ARI - also not trying to tank anymore

So let’s divulge this notion of “sure you’re willing to accept 20m to help EDM”.

Campbell firstly isn’t a Vlasic contender for brutal buyouts (Vlasics buyout for the last two seasons is the only reason why is still in the NHL). Campbell as a buyout isn’t brutal. So if SJS doesn’t accept this proposed offer.. EDM will just ride it out.

So your suggesting, a tanking team who’s bad, doesn’t need cap space because they have a ton - not utilize their cap space to receive multiple high round picks and a former first round pick because….??

Sorry, that just makes zero sense to me and seems stubborn if Grier declines first + former first + a second.
