Absolutely zero chance penguins give up a prospect and a 2nd to dump like one month of carters contract. It's going to be like half a million by the trade deadline lol

It'll be before that, maybe Briere can talk his friend into a retirement tour in PHI so Carter will waive his NTC, but that 3.125mil cap hit is gruesome.

Its also a 2026 second, THREE drafts away, and its not so shiney anymore 22, turning 23 yr old Poulin, probably the only guy the Pens wont call up this year with their revolving door of depth players

by 2026 the pens may be in a full rebuild so that 2nd could end up being basically a late 1st (mid 30s overall)
and 3.125 cap hit is really not even close to gruesome lol. they could send him to the minors and it ends up being a 2 mil cap hit.
Poulin may not have panned out as hopped but unfortunately for the pens he still may be one of their top prospects.

I could see the pens using a 3rd or 4th to dump him at the deadline (when his cap his is basically league minimum) but only if there is another deal in place to bring in a separate player and they truly need that cap space.
But this trade as is definitely won't happen that is just too slanted in philly's favor

Yes I definitely agree that its a ton to part with to get cap and I agree that they shouldnt be moving picks (old team with few quality prospects), but they also can;t afford to just ride out the contract either, because of the path they've chosen they cant afford to lose a year. And 3.125 in cap is alot of space.

But the pressure is on PIT to make something out of this core before its too late, and the way they look right now, they need to do something and quick
