Description

I don't really think this is a year to make any major additions. I don't think the likes of Tanev, Larsson, Oleksiak etc etc really are going to get us over the hump. Sure they help the team this season. But not beyond, or at least there will undoubtedly be finishing returns if we add any 30+ to year old. We've seen it enough times to no.

I'd rather see some smaller moves. Maybe some guy that has looked good, offers some different skills that could pan out if he takes a step. Right now this team doesn't look like a contender to me, they have some big problems and throwing old guys at it, could work but I just don't have the same confidence as I did last season.

Borgen doesn't necessarily have to be the addition but someone younger who has some untapped upside seems like a smarter addition. Low risk high reward sort of deal.

If all RHD options are gone, then the Leafs might do this trade and go from there.

That's the point though, I don't think any RHD options are overly great. They are older guys who's best days are behind them. Spending 1sts and good prospects for guys who'll not help down the line is wasteful. I don't know if this team is good enough to win it all. And adding a Tanev isn't going to put them over the top. May as well try for someone who could grow into a bigger part of the solution.
