Description
I don't reply to anyone who comments without reading my description/reasoning.

Just an outsider. I've watched a dozen or so Dallas games this year. I picked them to win the cup this year in September, as well as last season.

Faksa is still a decent 4C from what I've seen, but he's the piece that needs to be moved in order to bring someone in. He has a 5 team no trade list. I doubt he wants to be moved at this point in his career since Dallas has a real shot at a cup, but he probably becomes the casualty if Nill wants to improve the blueline.

Who knows what the hell Calgary is doing. This trade probably doesn't make a ton of sense given how cost controlled and effective Andersson is for Calgary. He's their best defenseman IMO.

Dallas' biggest need is a top 4 RHD. Dallas could use another upgrade on defense in addition to this one if you ask me, but they just don't have much cap space to work with so I'm just doing this trade for now. Even if Dallas can't get over the hump this year, this trade goes a long way to solving their problems for the next 2 1/2 seasons. Gives you a partner who can actually play at Heiskanen's level, as well as be a major minute muncher in their top 4.

As far as value, I think it's pretty fair. Some people will say it's an overpayment, but Calgary holds all the leverage with Andersson. They get 2 solid draft picks as well as an instant replacement for the right side of their blueline. I know Dallas just acquired Lundqvist, but he's just the piece I chose. I would think if he isn't being sent, it's Christian Kyrou.

Faksa I just threw in to make the cap work. Calgary likely doesn't want Faksa, so he could be traded to any team who would be willing to take him on. Solid veteran for someone's bottom 6. Even if you have to pay more than you want to dump him, it's a price that Dallas needs to pay in my opinion. They desperately need an upgrade on their blueline, and could survive with a lesser 4C.

There's a handful of 4C options on the market that could realistically be bought. Bellemare is just one that I picked. Seattle might sell him if they're out of the race. There's Blackwell, Czarnik, a few others. Point is that with Faksa gone, I think Dallas looks to find a replacement who is deeply entrenched in their role as a 4C rather than playing Steel, Smith or Dellandrea there. But maybe that's what they do, let me know.

They still have Bayreuther down in the A. You probably don't want to waive Hanley. You don't wanna risk losing a depth D to waivers this late in the year, but unless someone hits LTIR, they'll have to waive someone to make the cap work.

Thanks for reading! I always like to hear anyone's feedback or comments!

I can tell you, even though your description suggests an overpay, this is not it. To pry Anderson from Calgary will take a lot more than a late 1st, which if they win the cup is #32, and Lundkvist. Bischel, Bourque or Stankoven HAVE to be in there at least. Add from there.

I flew this trade last summer on an old account, and was shredded. I was told a 1st, 3rd and Lundqvist/Kyrou was an overpayment. I completely agree with you though, this likely doesn't get it done, especially if Calgary agreed to take on Faksa. I used Chychrun as a comp for Andersson, but Calgary is in a much different position that Arizona was when they sold on him. Andersson is the type of player that you have to pay a huge price to get, because Calgary has all the leverage and he's just such a good player. Thanks for the response!

Have to think with the Chychrun comp, there was a greater amount of quality in the 1st round pick alone than most of this offer. Significantly deeper draft and substantially higher pick. There would also be a bit of positional premium to be had, I would expect anyways. I would have to think something along the lines of 1 of Stankoven/ Bourque/ Bischel + 2024 1st + Kyrou/ 2024 2nd and likely another piece on top of that. If compared to the Chychrun trade, #12 in 2023 + 2024 2nd + 2026 2nd, I would say that what I laid out is pretty much the same value. Add a bit on top because I would say Anderson > Chychrun plus RHD are just that much harder to come by. I almost want to say it would take Bischel + Stankoven/ Bourque + 2024 2nd, super hard to say. If made available I'm sure more than half the teams would be hard after him. Buffalo, Ottawa and Montreal could put together extremely good packages. Another thing to think about, as i drag this thought out waaaay too long, is they would be playing Anderson regularly in season and in the playoffs if they traded him to Dallas, I think a preference would also be considered to an eastern team.
