Description

Islanders: They get a top 10 winger to add scoring punch into their roster. The first line of Horvat/ Barzal could stay together while Marner joins Nelson to make a deadly scoring second line. Marner's cap is retained this season and next for 1.9 million to balance cap. Jones comes in for back up role, who should continue his great season behind a better defence than the Leafs.

Leafs: They get a fantastic shutdown defence and finally someone to play beside Reilly. Pulock is being overshadowed by how good Dobson has been this season, allowing NYI to make this deal. Leafs also get a much more reliable goalie in Varlamov even though his contract is silly. This allows the Leafs to run the possibility of three goalies for the remainder of the year. The 1st round draft pick is to balance the fairness of the deal.

I wonder if Varly wants one more run as a starter or has enjoyed his 1b role with the Isles. Not enough Russians on the Leafs, but I doubt they'd be on his 16 no team list.

Id be interesting for sure. I think him and Woll would be a nice 1a/1b next year. I was truthfully hoping thats what Sammy would have been.
