Description
If we want to cash in on Buchnevich at this TDL, this is what I would be looking for in return. I think a solid RD prospect, a 1st round pick, and a current roster player to balance out cap.

I made 2 scenarios to acquire Buchnevich, one being Kotkaniemi and the other being Teravainen. In both cases, the Blues are acquiring the RD and 1st round pick. I like the Kotkaniemi option more for the sake of acquiring a middle 6 center for the future. I think Thomas, Dvorksy, Kotkaniemi would be a pretty solid center core for years to come. The Blues can then move Schenn over to the wing position.

Snuggerud will join the team at the end of the regular season. I don’t think Minnesota is making it out of the regional if they match up against BC or BU (I think Minnesota is finishing 7-10). Snuggerud will make his Blues debut on 4/10 at home against Chicago. He’d slot into the 2nd line RW spot with Captain Schenn. Move everyone down one spot at RW and scratch Blais.

Lines with Teravainen
Neighbours - Thomas - Kyrou
Teravainen - Schenn - Kapanen*
Saad - Hayes - Sundqvist*
Walker - Alexandrov* - Toropchenko
Leddy - Parayko
Krug - Kessel
Perunovich - Faulk
Binnington - Hofer
Scratched: Scandella, Blais, Tucker

* Denotes when Snuggerud enters the line up as 2RW
- Kapanen becomes 3RW
- Sundqvist becomes 4C
- Alexandrov is sent to the AHL

Trades
1.
STL
  1. Kotkaniemi, Jesperi
  2. Morrow, Scott [Reserve List]
  3. 2024 1st round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Kotkaniemi is currently playing on the 4th line. Buchnevich immediately adds a Top 6 offensive threat to Carolina. I get Morrow may be a high valued prospect from Carolina’s perspective but Carolina is acquiring a high-end winger for 2 cup runs. Draft pick should be anywhere ranging from 20-32.
CAR
  1. Alexandrov, Nikita
  2. Buchnevich, Pavel
Additional Details:
Alexandrov is sent to fulfill the 4th line center position as a cheap option. They can also acquire a different 4C from another team but figured I’d throw him in from a positional need perspective.

If Buchnevich was going to be young enough to re-sign when this deal was up, they may consider it. Then there goes 2 of their best pieces to get a replacement center as well though.

All things being what they are, the canes decline the first one. We are likely looking to add to the roster, so i can see them moving turbo

He’d still be 30. But gauging what Lindholm got for Calgary, this is what I’d expect the Blues to get back for Buchnevich with same age and extra year on his contract.

Im not saying the blues are wrong for asking it. The price is just outside of the canes MO. Buchnevich will command big money on his next deal. Canes will be unwilling to pay it because the whole deal will be in his 30s and into 35+ years of age. I don’t see them moving their 2nd best prospect who is likely on the roster next season for a guy who they will only have for 1.25 seasons.

That is 100% fair. I’m sure the fit is there but the contract maybe be tough. I’d expect a 5 year $8M per on his next deal.

I would think he is going to ask 9 to only be 5 years and 8 on a 6 year deal
