Description
Lane Hutson played well, but man he's the skinniest defenseman I've ever seen. Put him on the ice against Brady Tkachuk or Tage Thompson and he's just gonna get man-handled.

He needs to put on some pounds and muscle in his lower body in the worst way. Someone at one point is gonna take a run at him and even if he's shifty, no one avoids getting hit forever, especially as a defender.

There is no reason this kid can't put on 10 pounds over the summer and nearly double the size of his Calves and Hamstrings.

As things stand, I would play Lane in the AHL until he bulks up. It may take him 2-3 years to get to 180 lbs, but he needs to be there if he wants to survive an NHL season.

That being said, I can't think of 2 better people to show him the way than Frankie Bouillon and MSL. Here's hoping he comes to camp at 175 lbs next season.

That kid looks like the real deal.

Just needs to hit the gym hard this summer and inhale lots of protein.

163 pounds for someone who is 5'10" isn't the worst I've seen, but yeah, he will need to bulk up. He is likely going to get exposed if he doesn't. Doing it too quickly can be bad for athleticism/agility/etc., causing him to have to re-learn his entire game. Even 10 lbs in one summer could be too much all at once. He looked pretty good, though. What a fun and emotionally exhausting game last night!

If you think he went to the US national program and NCAA and didn't hit the gym you are kidding yourself.
Eating more protein isn't going to help. Your body can only digest so much of it and then you just pi$$ it out.
You'll waste more money than you will grown.
At 20, after years of trying it's probably high metabolism. Given he's not very tall.
Tall people can tend to have a very hard time gaining weight.

Happy for the Wings and Happy the Habs keep draft position.

3 points by Jake Evans and coulda been 4 if the young man could shoot the puck at all because Lane set him up for a beauty!

I hear you about going too quick. I'd like to see him around 170 at least. I dunno if he starts in the NHL, but it's very hard to say he can't. More of a question of whether he should.

In college he was apparently the first in and last out. He used to beat the coaches to work. His commitment to athleticism is not in question, he knows how hard he's gonna have to work.

He's just... Small. A lower body like that one is not suited to a brutal 82 games of NHL punishment. 7-10 pounds of muscle is gonna mean the world to this kid if he wants to start in MTL next season.
