Description
I hated Newsy's system. Midway through the season when I criticized it, people pointed to the fact we were over performing. But boy did it rear it's ugly head for the last month and a half. We couldn't defend. And I don't care who you have in the net. It wouldn't be good enough for hockey this time of year. This roster was good enough as they showed at times, the coaching was not. The forwards are not good enough to play D properly in his system and the defence so easily end up out of position. Really hope Yzerman makes a change. This D core is a lot better than the result they end up putting out there imo.

It's a lot of youth. But Berggren has played his fair share in the league, Edvinsson is a given, and Johansson has played enough pro hockey now to be trusted. The only big time rookie roles then are Kasper and Mazur, and I think they've earned it.

Rolling 12 forwards, 8 D and 3 goalies because we can't trust Husso to stay healthy. If we have a forward injury we can roll 11/7 or call up Danielson/Soderblom for longer term. Doing this under the impression they are close.

Maybe it could be a step back, but I think defensively this roster is at least better. Kane was not very good for us in that regard. Seider and Edvinsson leading the charge now and hopefully a healthy Walman. Johansson is a stark defensive improvement over Ghost. If anything we should just be less offensive, but I think more physical and harder forechecking. With Raymond's development, I think we're in a good space to still score at a decent clip if we can play that style of game.

I don't know his worth, but Detroit could also throw in another B level prospect. Maybe Dylan James (2nd rounder), I think he would fit Verbeek's style of play

I'd also trade one of if not both (if you can) Maatta and Holl open up cap space for Kane if he wants back or possibly even Stamkos!

It's not popular opinion but I'd rather have that roster spot for Berggren, and we can keep those two defenders for depth as they both are solid. I wouldn't expect Ajo to play 80 games, so it is probably a rotation. The only UFAs I want back are really Perron and Fischer, but that is just my take and not shared with most wings fans. I would like Stammer but not the term that is likely needed.

I agree with you.

Red Wings should start playing their prospects.

Problem is Red Wings fans favorite saying is "needs another year in Grand Rapids."

It's Pavlovian.

So drinking Yzerman's Kool-aid will result in players only being promoted when they're out of waiver options like Berggren is.

But you're not allowed to ever criticize Yzerman.

It's a federal offense.

Of course he knows more than I do.

I'd certainly hope so. 🤭

But personally I don't disagree with the way Yzerman has handled the prospects so far. The only one I can question for me is Berggren, but I also understand why it was done this way. The next season maybe has more to consider

By the time these kids get real opportunities to make the team Larkin will be on the downside of his career.
