Description

This roster assumes Val isn't ever coming back. Leaves room for Captain. There's $4M to play with once Landeskog shakes out. I'm still hoping NK51 becomes a player with more practice & adjustment time to NA. I see Behrens becoming a starter sometime this season too.

Val counts $5M in the AHL, so forget about that option. Based on Guerilla Sports saying players were mad at him in Seattle and Johnson's comment today that "he made his choices," I expect Val is done in COL. That's two major incidents. The Avs can't do anything for six months while the AP is in effect, other than LTIR. Afterwards, he'd have to agree to terminate (possibly to play in Russia) for the Avs to wipe their hands clean. Nobody is trading for Val's contract. But, given how many times teams have wiggled out of situations like this, I expect somehow the Avs will ditch Val and his cap hit.

The fact he was immediately put back in the AP means his contract remains, for now.

Val's wife is older & independently successful. I see Val as immature & not able to handle pressures like being a first line "40m a night" (Bednar) professional and also being a new Father. He's notoriously shy with the media. He might be happier in the Swiss League.
