Description
The Flames are very close to being a contending team as is. The biggest thing holding them back at this point is scoring depth. Adding Hoffman potentially creates a Phil Kessel-esque (I know Hoffman isn't right at Kessel's level) third line that could create matchup problems for other teams. Adding Grabner to the other side gives another scoring threat, and a strong two way guy to help take a bit of defensive pressure off Jankowski. I'm not sure if I have his price right, but there's plenty of cap space to bump it up a bit if needed.

The top 4 on D stay the same, but Stone gets traded to open up space for some younger guys - most likely Rasmus Andersson. Ian Cole is signed as a depth defenseman to give Valimaki and Fox time to develop in the AHL if they aren't quite ready to make the jump.

Sceaviour, Leivo and Soshnikov make up a solid 4th line with plenty of upside. If any of them struggle or in case of injuries, Mangiapane, Hrivik, Lazar, Dillon Dube, Lomberg, and Foo are all waiting in the AHL.

All of this looks really good, and would be amazing if it all came together. My one question is what happened to Kulak? He has been solid on the left side as a bottom pairing guy and I think that him and Andersson would be excellent together. This in turn would also make the Cole signing unnecessary. If you meant to leave him off just curious as to what the reasoning is.

Getting Hoffman seems fair but Calgary need depth top RW... not 3rd LW IMO.
Would you give the same package for Gallagher & Shaw?

I left him off at first to keep a space for Valimaki, then reconsidered part way through that having a veteran in case Valimaki isn't ready was a good idea, and I forgot to circle back to Kulak. I'd be good with him in Cole's spot, although I do think Cole would be an upgrade. Thanks for the feedback!

Calgary has Micheal Ferland on pace for 30 goals this year playing on the top line, and the top line is scoring like crazy with Gaudreau/Monahan. It's their third line that has really struggled and needs the scoring boost. Hoffman and Ferland can play both sides if needed, so you could always swap them from time to time if you wanted to give Hoffman a shot on that top line.

I don't think I would do the same package for Gallagher and Shaw, just because Shaw's contract could prevent them from being able to resign Tkachuk, who IMO is one of the critical pieces. Shaw's injury history concerns me too, and Gallagher's style of play tends to cause him to miss time with injuries. Also, Flames already have Tkachuk in the pest role, and I think a pure scorer is a more important addition than another pest (even though Gallagher is awesome).
