Will the Rangers eat Lucic's 6m contact for 5 years? Probably depends if they think the return is worth it and if the rebuild will take 5 years. If they start drafting 1st rounders, a couple of them will take at least 5 years before they get big raises.
I think we need to target an elite RHD who is around the same age as our core, Doughty, Karlsson and Carlson are too old. Parayko, Ekblad, Jones, Barrie, Faulk are the best options in my opinion. Are the Blues going full rebuild? I think this trade could help them, especially if Sekera has a nice rebound year. Sekera is a solid vet who can mentor prospects and be a leader in the dressing room, good for a rebuild.
I think we need to keep RNH, if he can be a good winger, then he is invaluable in his ability to cover for McDavid or Drai when they get injured, center the 2nd line pp, and center a pk unit.
I've heard JVR is looking for 6x6m. Can he consistently score 30 goals on a line with McDavid? I say we take him. Another option would be Evander Kane, I've heard 5x5m will probably get him signed. Would that be a better fit for McDavid? If so, do we risk it?
I have us trading away all our veteran depth players, who in my mind are blocking development of our prospects. I know I might have some of the values and destinations wrong, I'm just trying to get the general idea of what we should do across.
I know Talbz is a fan favourite, but he had an off year this year. In this strategy we have the cap space to sign Aaron Dell to a lucrative one year contract. He could split the games with Talbz and the two of them could compete for the starting role going into the 2019-2020 season. Thoughts?
I don't think we will be contenders next year, but I think we will make the playoffs and could potentially make some noise. I think this upcoming year we focus on McDavid and Draisaitl leading their own lines and developing some chemistry with consistent wingers, and the rookies gaining experience. A lot of our players have suffered injuries this year and not played up to their potential, I think we subtract Lucic, add Parayko and JVR, and then give everyone else a second chance.
Our success and what we do after this would depend on:
- do we get solid goal tending this year?
- can Cagguila and Slepyshev consistently bring their A-game we saw in the playoffs last year?
- Can a couple of Yamz, Aberg, Benson, Jones, Bear crack the line up and be effective? I think Yamz, Aberg, and Jones (playing with a vet like Russell) can. We should find out about Aberg down the stretch this year.
- Can we stay healthier then we did this year? Unfortunately this applies to every team and theres nothing we can do about it.
- Can guys like McDavid, Drai, RNH, JVR, Klefbom, Larsson and Russell be leaders to replace Lucic, Sekera, Letestu, and Hendricks?
Any deal for Parayko starts with Draisaitl. Even still, Blues would be slightly more willing to trade Pietrangelo instead.
Who knows where Armstrong thinks the Blues are at right now. For the Oilers I think it would be worth going all in (as many picks/prospects required) for someone like Parayko, to have a core of McDavid Draisaitl Nurse Parayko. I think you need 2 elite centres and a elite defensemen to be a contender so it wouldn't make sense for us to trade Draisaitl. With enough picks/prospects it might make sense to trade Parayko right now if the Blues are rebuilding, no?

Parayko is 24 with 4 more years on his contract. Pietrangelo is 28 and has two more seasons after this year on his contract. Why trade the younger d-man with term over the guy who has been part of the same core for almost 10 years? Makes no sense in a rebuild
